Rikishi hasn’t been shy about his criticism of WWE creative over this last week, hitting out at the booking of his son, Jey Uso, losing the World Heavyweight Championship back to Gunther after a reign of just 51 days. He even called for those behind the creative process to leave, detailing his unhappiness in Uso’s presentation and short title reigns. He has also now taken issue with the presentation over the years of R-Truth.
R-Truth returned to WWE programming after news emerged of his contract expiring and not being renewed - a decision fans were unhappy about and rejected. This led to Truth returning under the “Ron Killings” name, becoming a more serious and focused character as opposed to his comedic one. Rikishi reflected on this during an episode of his Off The Top podcast.
“Everybody thought that, okay, Ron Killings, the way they built him, certain promos, I didn’t agree. Certain promos that they had him shoot, right, as if, like, you know, he was a black guy that didn’t understand, right? That was this. There was that for me, I hated that, you know, I hated, I hated that. That was the type of promo that, you know, that whoever creative has that was the best they had to write for. But guess what? Ronnie did it with a smile. Ronnie… he understands the game. The most realist thing to him was that bag [money] getting that every week. And so, 17 plus years a career run like that… Truth, you the winner, man, you the winner.”
