Road Dogg to TNA is swiftly becoming the pro wrestling version of a protracted football/soccer transfer saga.
It emerged in the aftermath of Tommy Dreamer parting ways with TNA Wrestling that Brian James had been discussed within the promotion as Dreamer's replacement, with it quickly emerging that the plan was for Road Dogg to be a part of the creative team alongside Hunter "Delirious" Johnston and TNA Vice President of TV Production Eric Tompkins.
Road Dogg was expected to be in attendance at TNA's Slammiversary pay-per-view on Sunday, June 28, and he was indeed backstage at the show, but he has yet to sign with the company.
PWInsider has reported that Road Dogg was not backstage at the TNA IMPACT tapings on July 1 and July 2 in Albany, New York and the two sides are still working out a deal for Brian James to sign with TNA. Talks between TNA and Road Dogg are moving forward, but those discussions did not result in James helping out with creative, at least in person, at the latest round of Thursday Night IMPACT tapings.
Whether a deal for Road Dogg to sign with TNA will be completed before the next IMPACT tapings in Philadelphia on July 30 and July 31 is unknown.
Road Dogg had been a part of WWE for several years until March 2026 when he quit the company due to feeling like he wasn't earning his wage. Brian James also previously wrestled for TNA from 2002 until 2009, holding the NWA World Tag Team Titles across two reigns with Ron Killings and Konnan.
