Gunther vs. Nick Aldis might actually happen at a future WWE event.

WrestleVotes Radio on Fightful Select has reported there have been "significant internal discussions" about a programme between Gunther and the SmackDown general manager. If a match does actually happen, it would be Aldis wrestling Gunther as opposed to the former Magnus selecting a wrestler to represent him in a match.

A future match was set up during the Night of Champions post-show when Gunther confronted Nick Aldis backstage, blaming the SmackDown GM for his failure to capture the WWE Title in the Triple Threat main event won by Sami Zayn. Gunther then accused Aldis of being jealous of him due to being a failed wrestler, with the two men coming to blows after Gunther repeatedly prodded Aldis and the Englishman warned Gunther not to do so, with Aldis pushing Gunther in the throat, resulting in a pull-apart brawl. WWE announced on Monday Night Raw that Aldis had been placed on administrative leave following the incident.

There have been discussions about Nick Aldis wrestling for WWE in the past, with one idea floated in 2025 being a proposed programme with Solo Sikoa that gained internal traction, according to WrestleVotes. Aldis has yet to wrestle for WWE since he signed with the company and his most recent match was an October 2023 five-way for Appalachian Championship Wrestling.

After briefly working for WWE as a producer on a handshake deal, Aldis signed full-time with the organisation in October 2023 and debuted on TV later that month as the new general manager of Friday Night SmackDown. Aldis has remained on-screen in that role ever since.

Prior to signing with WWE, Nick Aldis wrestled for 19 years, having made his in-ring debut in 2004. After a stint on Gladiators as Oblivion, Aldis signed with TNA in 2008 and was featured for the promotion until 2015 as Magnus, during which he became a one-time TNA World Champion and two-time TNA World Tag Team Champion.

After wrestling for Jeff Jarrett's Global Force Wrestling and a brief return to TNA, Nick Aldis spent several years in the National Wrestling Alliance from 2017 until 2022, during which he reigned as NWA Worlds Heavyweight Champion for 1043 days from October 2018 until August 2021. Aldis left NWA at the end of 2022, though, following a bitter fallout with Billy Corgan.

Aldis then had another brief stint in TNA, main eventing Slammiversary 2023 in an IMPACT World Title match against Alex Shelley. Aldis headed to WWE soon after.
