Sabu is on the Mount Rushmore of ECW, with the two-time ECW World Heavyweight Champion one of the most innovative wrestlers of the 1990s. However, the hardcore icon was not impressed by NXT's recent homage to ECW at the 2300 Arena.

The show featured several names from ECW's past such as Rob Van Dam, Little Guido, and The Dudley Boys amongst others, but Sabu was nowhere to be seen, with the ‘Homicidal Suicidal Genocidal Death Defying’ star saying the following about the show to Covalent TV:

"I thought it was lame. Even though it's a good show, good wrestlers, it was lame for a nostalgia ECW thing. The building doesn't look the same. It's not the same. It's not really a reunion or a top-notch thing, without me or Sandman. Both of us or one or the other. It's kind of a must, I think," Sabu said, adding that he felt former ECW President Paul Heyman should have been featured on the show.

Sabu also criticised the decision for NXT to dip the lights during the event before Rhino made a surprise appearance, with the lights-out motif in ECW heavily associated with Sabu.
