Sammy Guevara Being Defended Within AEW Over Suspension

Some in AEW defending Sammy Guevara over recent suspension

Sammy Guevara’s recent suspension for failing to adhere to concussion protocols in All Elite Wrestling has seen some believing Guevara was hard done by, with it argued that referees and medical staff should have done more and stepped in to end Guevara’s match with Jeff Hardy on the spot.

Guevara broke Hardy’s nose with a botched Shooting Star Press during their match on the February 16 edition of AEW Rampage. Guevara was instructed to end the match, but hit Hardy with the GTH before getting the 1-2-3. Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter reports that some backstage in AEW are defending Guevara over the incident, with it argued that it was a miscommunication between the parties involved with regards to ending the match on the spot.

The GTH is a reverse Go 2 Sleep, meaning Guevara strikes the back of his opponent’s head rather than the face. With Hardy having suffered a head injury, concussion protocol comes into action, meaning no strikes or agitation of the head in case a concussion has occurred. Whilst ultimately Hardy wasn’t concussed, at the time no-one was to know, pending further checks.

As of writing it is currently unknown how long Guevara will be suspended for.
