Sammy Guevara, Tay Conti Win Mixed Tag Titles At AAA TripleMania XXX
One of them didn't even wrestle
Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti are the new AAA Mixed Tag Team champions, gaining the belts at TripleMania XXX on Saturday night in Monterrey, despite the fact that Guevara wasn't actually a participant in the match.
The match was a four way pitting champions Arez and Chik Tormenta against Kommander and Sexy Star, Latigo and Lady Maravilla, and what was supposed to be Guevara and Conti.
In a pre-tape promo that aired before the match, however, Conti expressed concern about Guevara's health, since he'd gotten hurt in his TNT title loss to Scorpio Sky in a ladder match on Wednesday's Dynamite. Therefore, Conti entered into the four-way with Parka Negra as her partner instead.
Late in the match, Guevara attacked Arez and Tormenta with a crutch he was using while at ringside. Though he wasn't technically in the match, he and Conti pinned both champions to win the belts.
Arez and Tormenta's reign as champions ends after 201 days. They won the titles from Villano III Jr and Lady Maravilla on October 11, 2021 in the city of Xalapa.
