SANADA Suffers Injury During NJPW G1 Climax 33

NJPW G1 Climax 33 saw SANADA suffer an injury

The 33rd NJPW G1 Climax Tournament is in the books, but it seems the prestigious tourny didn’t come without its share of problems.

After being eliminated in the quarter finals by EVIL, IWGP World Heavyweight Champion SANADA has revealed he suffered an injury, posting his diagnosis on Instagram:

“"Distal biceps tendon rupture" during G1. I'm going to heal well during the off,” read the caption, beneath images of SANADA’s left arm in various stages of treatment.

It is not known when exactly SANADA suffered the injury, but he did wrestle with his arm taped up on August 5, days after his match with Gabriel Kidd on August 1.

Despite the injury, SANADA continued to work the rest of the tour, competing in multi-man tag matches on August 12 and August 13 during the closing weekend of the G1. On the August 13 show, EVIL further attacked SANADA, likely setting up a title match between the two.

It is currently unknown how severe SANADA’s injury is, nor if he will have to miss any time from in-ring competition. The Just Five Guys member is scheduled to appear at the IMPACT x NJPW Multiverse United II event on August 27 in Toronto, Canada.
