The feud between Shinsuke Nakamura and Seth Rollins continued on Monday's episode of Raw, with Nakamura revealing that he whispered "I know about your back" to Rollins on last week's show from the red brand. Nakamura then revealed he is planning to use Rollins' back injury to his advantage, with their World Heavyweight Championship match being made official for Payback on September 2.

Rollins addressed Nakamura's comments later on Raw, confirming that he was dealing with two fractures in his lumbar spine and he had been suffering from the injury for over four years, with the issue only becoming progressively worse. The World Heavyweight Champion then stated he is unsure how much longer he can compete at his current level.

Rollins revealed in July that he was dealing with two stress fractures in his lower back that he sustained in 2019 and he is trying to do what he can to avoid surgery. He has undergone stem cell treatments in the past but they only served as a temporary fix.

Payback will be Nakamura's first singles match at a WWE pay-per-view since Fastlane 2021 when he sustained a loss to Rollins.
