Plenty announced for AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door
Jun 22, 2023
CM Punk will have to combat a lover of bread at the upcoming AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
It was announced during the June 21 edition of AEW Dynamite that Punk will take on Satoshi Kojima at Forbidden Door in the first round of the men's Owen Hart Foundation tournament. Reports noted that CM Punk was originally scheduled to face KENTA but that match was nixed after KENTA turned down facing Punk. In the first round of the women's Owen Hart Foundation tournament, Athena will face Billie Starkz on the Zero Hour pre-show.
Two title matches have been added to Forbidden Door that will see Toni Storm put the AEW Women's World Championship on the line against NJPW STRONG Women's Champion Willow Nightingale. Orange Cassidy, meanwhile, will defend the AEW International Title in a Four-Way against Zack Sabre Jr., Katsuyori Shibata, and Daniel Garcia.
In another major match, The Young Bucks and Hangman Page will team with Eddie Kingston and Tomohiro Ishii to face Blackpool Combat Club's Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, as well as Shota Umino and Konosuke Takeshita. The match came about after Kingston agreed to team with The Elite and the Mad King later selected Tomohiro Ishii as their partner.
Sting and Darby Allin will be in Trios action at Forbidden Door against Chris Jericho, Minoru Suzuki, and Sammy Guevara. The Icon and Darby will reveal their partner on Collision. The two men teamed with Shingo Takagi as the Dudes with Attitudes at last year's Forbidden Door so a reunion may well be on the cards.
