Shawn Michaels Convinced Johnny Gargano Is Trying To Make Him Laugh In WWE NXT

Shawn Michaels has praised the recent heel work by Johnny Gargano and The Way in WWE NXT, comparing their mannerisms to his style during the late 1990s in D-Generation X. 

Gargano, along with Candice LeRae, Austin Theory and Indi Hartwell, have done arguably some of the best work of their respective careers since linking up in the latter part of 2020, with the group established as one of the top heel factions in WWE. 

Michaels can see similarities between Gargano's heel style and his own, in particular the way the NXT North American Champion does things to entertain his stablemate, admitting he would have a tough time believing the 33-year-old isn't trying to make either the Heartbreak Kid or NXT boss Triple H laugh. 

Speaking to the New York Post, Michaels said: "There are times where Johnny is doing exactly what we used to do. We used to do a lot of stuff to entertain one another and what we all thought was funny. I’d have a hard time not believing that Johnny is a lot of times out there trying to make Hunter and I laugh in the back and he does it every time. 

"He and Candice (LeRae) and entire Way with (Austin) Theory and Ind (Hartwell). We were just commenting on it last week. That has been such an awesome package. I think it’s done wonders for the depth and the range not only for Johnny and Candice, everyone knew how talented they were, but for Indi and Theory. You’ve just seen a whole other side of them. Collectively, The Way is one of the best teams or factions. They’ve got a chance to become one of those ones you will remember forever."
