Shawn Michaels returned to the ring in 2018 (we’ll forgive you if you choose to ignore this fact) for one final match in which he teamed with Triple H to take on Kane & The Undertaker at the Crown Jewel event. This match is regarded as one of the worst of all time, with so much going wrong in terms of botches, injuries, and more.
However, during his appearance on The Undertaker’s Six Feet Under podcast, Michaels reveals that he had no regrets.
“It so doesn’t bother me. I don’t care… if that’s going to be the one out of the whatever the 599 that went fantastic. You put one blemish on it and that’s gonna I could care… You couldn’t. No one could badger me enough to make me feel bad about that. I’m sorry… I almost take that as a sense of pride, because I don’t know. I go like you have to, I don’t know. Think about the life I’ve lived. I don’t sort of like winning my last match. You can’t be the Heartbreak Kid and win your last match…
“I can’t be a member of DX and not have that last match just be completely freaking bonkers. I don’t know. It’s like, said, I’m, I don’t know, for whatever, I think I’ll say this. It’s because, through the help of you and countless other guys, I’m so proud of the rest of it. There’s just, there’s just, there’s not enough. There’s not enough shame in this world to make me feel like, you know, I mean, I don’t know.”
Michaels is currently the lead of NXT’s creative time - an area of WWE that The Undertaker has recently declared some interest in potentially joining.
