Former TNA World Champion Steve Maclin has revealed why he exited the promotion, having been granted his release in June 2026.
Maclin is one of many names that have departed TNA wrestling in recent months, and taking to his and wife Deonna Purrazzo's Boots to Boots podcast, the former TNA Champion noted why he felt the need to exit the promotion:
“It was something I had been wanting for a while,” Maclin said. “It was just trying to keep calm about it, be professional, and make things work creatively to see if things could happen, and it wasn’t happening.”
Maclin continued, noting how TNA made it difficult for him to take outside bookings:
“Once you hit my pocket and our family, when you’re cutting dates on pay, that’s where it hurts. I can’t do that when other people are getting paid to go work elsewhere while still getting paid by the company, whether it’s full payment or not; they were still doing it while I’m making this company a priority. That’s a problem for me,” continued Maclin “As somebody who was on a per-date contract and not a salary, it was a hard pill to swallow. Here I am committing to you and giving every bit of me.”
Part of TNA/IMPACT since 2021, Maclin reportedly signed a contract extension in January 2026, although it is not known how long the deal had left to run for before Maclin asked for and was granted his release.
