Tetsuya Naito To Undergo Eye Surgery

Tetsuya Naito reveals he needs surgery

Tetsuya Naito is set to undergo eye surgery, the former IWGP Heavyweight Champion revealed to Tokyo Sports

Naito is currently suffering from 'super oblique muscle paralysis' in his eye due to the deterioration of the muscle that moves the eye downward and inward and the issue has caused the leader of Los Ingobernables de Japon to have double vision as well difficulty in perceiving distance.

When exactly Naito will undergo surgery is not known but the 39-year-old revealed NJPW's upcoming Best Of The Super Juniors 29 tournament provided the perfect time for him to have the procedure.

Naito was almost forced to retire in 2019 after he first suffered from paralysis of the eye. He underwent surgery in November of that year but the former IWGP Intercontinental Champion revealed his eye is now in worse condition than before he first had surgery.

Naito has remained one of New Japan Pro-Wrestling's top stars in recent years and he unsuccessfully challenged Kazuchika Okada for the IWGP World Heavyweight Title at Sunday's Wrestling Dontaku show, ending their trilogy.
