The Rock Confirms He Came Back To WWE For WrestleMania 40 Match With Roman Reigns

The Rock was set to face Roman Reigns at WWE WrestleMania 40

When The Rock made his way back to WWE and was revealed to be facing Roman Reigns at WrestleMania XL it caused a negative reaction from WWE fans, to put it mildly.

WWE pivoted at the recent WrestleMania pre-show press conference and had Rock turn heel and align with cousin Reigns as Cody Rhodes ‘took back’ his main event shot at the champ, with many wondering if WWE had planned this all along.

Earlier reports had suggested that new TKO board member Rock had lobbied for the Mania main event, and during a conversation with E! News, it seems that Rock was actually set to face Reigns at the ‘Showcase of the Immortals’:

“It’s just, it’s in here, it’s in my DNA. WrestleMania every year, year over year, continues to get better and better and cooler and cooler and bigger and bigger. So, the goal was for me to come back to WWE. It was; there were a few components to it. Number one was, number one, and most importantly, what can we create for the fans? That’s going to be interesting.

“And then can we possibly create the biggest WrestleMania event of all time, the biggest match of all time between myself and Roman Reigns. Can we do that? And the best thing about always coming back to this world of pro wrestling that I was born into is I get to connect with the people and the fans in ways that I don’t have that opportunity to connect with them,” said Rock.

It is unclear when Rock recorded this interview, with ‘The Great One’ leaning into his refreshed heel role post-press conference, recently telling Rhodes on social media that he ‘f***** around and found out’ during their confrontation.
