The Rock Reveals WrestleMania 39 Match With Roman Reigns Was "Locked" In

Rock Vs. Roman at WrestleMania 39 was at one point "locked" in

The WWE Universe is buzzing with the return of The Rock on last night’s WWE SmackDown, and given some of the comments made by The Great One earlier in the day, it is easy to see why there is some extra buzz in the air.

Earlier in the day, The Rock appeared on the Pat McAfee show and said that a WrestleMania 39 match against Roman Reigns inside So-Fi Stadium was “locked in”, revealing to have even shaken hands with Vince McMahon when it came to the match. This was supposedly back in 2022, and in the year that followed the parties couldn’t come to an agreement on how to make it extra special.

"The Rock headlining WrestleMania with Roman Reigns, SoFi Stadium, that was locked. We were doing it. In the beginning of 2022, Nick Khan - who we know, very good friend for years, he's the man - he was very instrumental in bringing Vince and I together. We all flew to LA, we met, we sat. So, then we had a year to really think about this. The North Star thought was, 'Okay, let's not do something good, let's not do something great, let's do something unprecedented. We can have the match but the bigger thought was what can we do for the fans of this business that we love where WrestleMania isn't the end of something, it's actually the beginning of something bigger?"

In the end, things didn't pan out for the match.

"We got really, really close but we couldn't actually nail what that thing was. So, we decided to put our pencils down.”

Roman Reigns would go on instead to face Cody Rhodes in the night two main event of WrestleMania 39, successfully defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship at the show.
