The Undertaker has defended attending Super Bowl 59 with alleged sexual abuser Vince McMahon, noting that he is still friends with the former WWE CEO and that the only judge is the Christian god.
"I was his guest, yeah. Look, I'm gonna get hate for that. People are like, 'Oh you guys were so close, you know what happened.' I'm like, 'I don't know what hasn't been done, we don't talk about those things.' But he is a friend of mine. First off, he gave me an opportunity to make something of my life and become something. Through the course of all of those years, we became friends. After my father passed away, he was a father figure, he was a brother, he was a mentor," The Undertaker (real name Mark Calaway) said on Busted Open After Dark.
"I don't know everything that's happened, what's gone on, and I'm not the judge on this case. There's only one judge, that's the man upstairs. He's gonna give us all whatever we deserve in the end, and that's what it is. I think people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones...I don't have to agree with everything that people do, but it doesn't change the fact that I love somebody, and I'm friends with somebody."
The Undertaker attended Super Bowl 59 with Vince McMahon and Shane McMahon. The game was won by the Philadelphia Eagles as they beat the Kansas City Chiefs 40-22.
Vince McMahon is currently a defendant in multiple lawsuits. One lawsuit filed against Vince McMahon, WWE, and John Laurinaitis by Janel Grant has accused Vince of sex trafficking, sexual assault and physical and emotional abuse. Another lawsuit filed by former WWE ring boys against Vince McMahon, Linda McMahon, WWE, and TKO Group Holdings has accused the defendants of being aware of sexual abuse carried out by Mel Phillips but doing nothing to stop or prevent it.
A recent ruling from a New York appeals court also stated that Vince McMahon is "the subject of an ongoing grand jury investigation", but McMahon's legal team has claimed the investigation concluded without any charges being filed against the 79-year-old.
