Last month, former AEW wrestler Ryan Nemeth filed a lawsuit against Tony Khan, AEW and CM Punk alleging assault, breach of contract, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, and intentional interference with prospective advantage. In the lawsuit, Nemeth alleged that Punk (real name Phil Brooks) "undertook a campaign to terrorize and intimidate" him, with Khan & AEW protecting Punk and not doing the same for the victim of Punk’s conduct. Additionally, Nemeth has alleged AEW and Khan of trying to “black ball” him from the industry.

AEW and Tony Khan have now responded to this matter, filing for private arbitration. Brandon Thurston of POST Wrestling has reported that a petition was filed on behalf of Khan and AEW in a federal court in Florida to compel arbitration.

“[a]ll disputes between [Nemeth] and AEW, including, without limitation, any dispute relating to any matter arising under this Agreement or any dispute concerning the performance, application or interpretation of any provision of this Agreement, shall be resolved for final, binding, and conclusive arbitration conducted before a single arbitrator in Duval County, Florida and administered by JAMS, Inc. pursuant to its Comprehensive Arbitration Rules and Procedures.”

The report notes that this is due to an arbitration clause in Nemeth’s contracts with AEW stipulating that any disputes are to be resolved in Duval County in Florida. The report also states that AEW and Khan are asking Nemeth to be responsible for attorney costs on their side.
