Asuka has been out of action for one year but a return for the former WWE Women's Champion is not imminent.

Fightful Select has reported that Asuka is still sidelined and when she was initially injured, WWE believed the Damage CTRL member would likely miss the rest of 2024 and 2025's WrestleMania 41. Reports earlier this year had suggested Asuka would be returning in May but that is seemingly no longer the case.

Asuka has not wrestled since she and Kairi Sane dropped the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles to Bianca Belair and Jade Cargill at Backlash 2024. Asuka underwent knee surgery shortly after and has been out of action ever since.

Plans had been discussed for Asuka's return as of January 2025, with Fightful noting there was surprise at the discussions within WWE as her return was not imminent and Asuka being cleared in time for WrestleMania was considered unrealistic.

Asuka has been a part of WWE since 2015. She is a four-time women's champion on the main roster, one-time NXT Women's Champion, and four-time WWE Women's Tag Team Champion with Kairi Sane (twice), Alexa Bliss (once), and Charlotte Flair (once).
