WWE are discussing creative plans for the on-screen return of Asuka, according to a report by Fightful Select.

Asuka hasn't wrestled since WWE's Backlash France show in May 2024, where she and Damage CTRL faction mate Kairi Sane lost their WWE Women's Tag Team Titles to Jade Cargill and Bianca Belair. Shortly after the event, it was revealed that Asuka was to undergo knee surgery which has kept her out of action.

However, Fightful Select's report suggests a return could soon happen, with Sean Ross Sapp noting creative plans have been discussed and pitched for the former WWE Women's Champion. A possible tag team match was pitched for Asuka but that idea was ultimately shot down.

It was also stressed that a return for Asuka at the upcoming Royal Rumble hasn't been confirmed. However, many fans would see it as an apt place for the Empress of Tomorrow to make her comeback, given that she won the first-ever Women's Royal Rumble Match in 2018.
