When Bandido made his AEW in-ring debut in September 2022, the former ROH World Champion turned many heads with his impressive in-ring style in an acclaimed bout with Chris Jericho. AEW would go on to sign Bandido to a full-time deal later that year, but since losing to Bryan Danielson on AEW Dynamite in January 2023, Bandido has been conspicuous by his absence.

Reports in February stated that Bandido was dealing with visa issues - as were fellow AEW stars the Lucha Brothers - and on the pre-ROH Supercard of Honor XVI media call, AEW/ROH President Tony Khan confirmed the reports;

“Bandido is a great example of an international wrestler that I've seen in Ring of Honor and was on All In and is a tremendous talent. He signed with ROH when we started AEW. On ROH, he was the lineal champion. I really like working with him and he's one of a number of international wrestlers who I really like who have had to renew their visas. It's nothing nefarious, it's a process that, when you use international talent, for a company that does the bulk of its business domestically, then you're going to see visa renewals and you deal with it whether it's in AEW or English football. I was very excited to get Bandido's stuff all settled and he's been a great example of somebody that has a chance to excel in both promotions and internationally," Khan said.

Since that loss to Danielson in January, Bandido has mainly been wrestling in his native Mexico, but did return to the USA for a GCW event in March. As of writing, there is no word on when Bandido is set to return to AEW TV.
