Update On Gable Steveson's WWE Status Following SmackDown Dark Match

Latest on Gable Steveson's WWE status

Gable Steveson might be coming to an arena near you.

The Olympic gold medallist has been away from WWE programming since his disastrous debut match at NXT Great American Bash when he went to a double count-out against Baron Corbin. Steveson was showered with boos throughout the match and such was his unpopularity that fans even cheered for Corbin.

Steveson has continued to wrestle at NXT house shows since his debut and he had a dark match on Friday Night SmackDown on January 5, defeating Cedric Alexander.

According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider, Gable Steveson is expected to be booked for more SmackDown tapings in the coming weeks. If he will appear on TV is unknown and he may simply be at SmackDown to work more dark matches. Steveson's main roster in-ring debut doesn't look set to take place in the near future as PWInsider noted they haven't heard any talk of Steveson being in the men's Royal Rumble on January 27.

Steveson has been signed with WWE since 2021 with the expectation he would be the next Kurt Angle. WWE beat competition from the likes of UFC to sign the Olympic gold medallist.
