Update On Kota Ibushi's Recovery From Ankle Injury

Latest on Kota Ibushi’s recovery from ankle injury

It’s been several months since we last saw Kota Ibushi, wit the ‘Golden Star’ having been on the shelf since January after his latest injury setback.

Ibushi broke his ankle - amongst other injuries - during a singles bout with Naomichi Marufuji for Pro Wrestling NOAH, with Ibushi subsequently undergoing surgery to repair the affected joint. A fan asked Ibushi on Twitter/X whether he’d be avenging Kenny Omega’s attack by The Elite in AEW, to which Ibushi replied:

“Of course, if my current doctor in Japan tells me that I can compete, I will report to AEW and return immediately. I'm now 85% alive. Please wait a little more.”

Ibushi had initially hoped to be ready to return sometime around September, with Ibushi noting in March that he was hoping to be back within six months.

After returning to in-ring competition in March 2023 with GCW, Ibushi officially signed with All Elite Wrestling in November 2023 having made his AEW in-ring debut at Blood & Guts III in July. Ibushi had missed almost 18 months of in-ring action when he made his GCW appearances, having sustained a serious shoulder injury in a bout with Kazuchika Okada in October 2021.
