AEW star Wardlow has not wrestled for the promotion since his match with then-AEW World Champion Samoa Joe on the March 13, 2024 edition of Dynamite due to sustaining an injury.

A new report from Fightful Select has shed some light on what's been going on with the former three-time AEW TNT Champion during his absence. According to the report, Wardlow suffered a suspected labrum injury in the spring of 2024 and was then involved in a car accident which exacerbated it.

Then, in the earlier part of 2025, he landed a television role which was described as "very appropriate and special". Wardlow has since been cleared to return to action but, after meeting with Tony Khan, it was agreed that bringing him back just to take him off television - so he can film the TV show role - wouldn't make any sense.

The report added that the 37-year-old has significant time left on his AEW deal and won't be leaving the promotion any time soon.

Wardlow was backstage at the Revolution pay-per-view in March. In May, he filed to trademark his ring name.
