Wrestling Code Deal Didn't Affect Kurt Angle's Inclusion In WWE 2K22

No Angle this year

Along with being the cover star, Rey Mysterio has his own 2K Showcase in WWE 2K22.

Several big moments from The Master Of The 619's career are playable in the mode but other major moments are absent due to Kurt Angle not being included in the video game, including Mysterio's first WWE pay-per-view match and the luchador's World Heavyweight Title win at WrestleMania 22.

Speculation suggested Angle was absent from WWE 2K22 due to his inclusion in the upcoming 'The Wrestling Code' video game from Virtual Basement, but that isn't the case.

Lead Designer of The Wrestling Code Ashton Anderson told Sports Gamers Online: "No, we don't restrict talent from being in other games or doing business with their brand. We treat talent like actors where they can be in as many movies as they want. The Wrestling Code is just one of those movies."

Angle and WWE were ultimately unable to agree to a deal that would have seen him featured in WWE 2K22, but why that was the case is currently unknown.

Angle had been in recent WWE titles since being a preorder bonus in WWE 2K18. He was released by the company in April of 2020.
