WWE Blocks Chelsea Green From Working GCW's Hammerstein Ballroom Show

GCW are heading back to the Hammerstein Ballroom on January 19, but an attempt to bring Chelsea Green in for the show was allegedly blocked by WWE.

Green’s husband Matt Cardona is a regular for GCW, and per a report from Dave Meltzer in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, GCW wanted to run Cardona & Green vs. Joey Janela & Megan Bayne for The People vs. GCW, but did not get the go-ahead from WWE.

GCW are instead set to run Cardona vs. Effy in a singles match at the show, with plans to run Cardona vs. Ricky Starks cancelled after All Elite Wrestling pulled Starks from all planned GCW shows after his shock appearance in November. Ironically, Cardona is currently freelancing for AEW as part of the Ring of Honor brand.

With The People vs. GCW taking place in the historic Hammerstein Ballroom, several ECW legends are scheduled to appear on the show, with the cult 90s hardcore federation having run the venue multiple times in the late 90s and early 2000s. The first GCW show in the building - The WRLD on GCW - was a sell-out in January 2022.
