WWE NXT To Hold Tournament To Crown Interim Cruiserweight Champion

Tournaments seem to be all the rage right now...

The coronavirus pandemic has caused major disruption for wrestlers based in the United Kingdom and Ireland. Stars like PAC and Pete Dunne are unable to fly to the United States because of President Trump's European travel ban, which has prevented them from being at NXT's and AEW: Dynamite's most recent tapings.

Another wrestling star who has also been affected by the pandemic is NXT Cruiserweight Champion Jordan Devlin, who is currently stranded in Ireland. Since winning the title at World's Collide, The Irish Ace has successfully defended the title against Lio Rush and Travis Banks, but the black and gold brand will be without one of its champions for some time.

To address this, William Regal announced on The Bump that NXT will hold a tournament to crown an Interim NXT Cruiserweight Champion. Regal did not provide any other details about the tournament, so the brackets and when it will begin are currently up in the air. An undisputed champion will likely be crowned once air travel returns to normal, however.

Regal was also unsure about what would happen with the NXT Tag Team Championships with Pete Dunne being stuck in the UK, but he said he would provide an update as soon as he could.
