WWE WrestleMania 40 Main Event Changes Now Considered A 'Blessing In Disguise’

The change to WrestleMania 40’s main event seen by WWE as ‘blessing in disguise’

The initial change to WWE WrestleMania XL’s main event drew a lot of criticism, with The Rock taking Cody Rhodes’ spot to face Roman Reigns drawing ire from wrestling fans. However, the course correction done by WWE has been widely praised, especially with Rock turning heel to side with Reigns.

With wrestling at its hottest in over 20 years, Mania XL is expected to attract a lot of media attention, doubly so with The Rock being involved. Writing in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer suggests that the furore and fallout of the main event changes has been seen within WWE as a ‘blessing in disguise’, with the belief that Rock will ‘probably do more now’, with his involvement with The Bloodline story likely to continue past Mania, with a potential Rock vs. Reigns match still something WWE can push in the future.

There’s still no confirmation as to what role Rock will undertake at Mania itself, although ‘The Great One’ has been officially paired with Reigns, and cousins Jimmy Uso and Solo Sikoa on WWE television. Reigns will officially put the Undisputed WWE Universal Championship on the line against Cody Rhodes at the 'Show of Shows.'
