What would become one of World Championship Wrestling's top pay-per-views of the year, Halloween Havoc was first introduced in 1989 while the promotion was still affiliated with the National Wrestling Alliance.

After the split in 1991, Halloween Havoc only grew in popularity and produced plenty of spookiness until WCW was purchased by WWE in 2001.

WWE and Vince McMahon then did absolutely nothing with Halloween Havoc until Triple H revived the property for NXT in 2020 as a TV special. The 2021 and 2023 editions remained TV specials, although the 2022, 2024 and 2025 versions are fully fledged NXT premium live events.
