Formed in 1991 after being spun off from the NWA Worlds Heavyweight Title, the WCW World Heavyweight Championship was World Championship Wrestling's top prize until the promotion was purchased by WWE in 2001.
The WCW World Heavyweight Title was then utilised as the second world title in WWE as part of The Invasion until the championship was unified with the WWE Championship in December 2001 to establish the Undisputed WWE Championship.
The WCW World Heavyweight Title was primarily represented through the Big Gold Belt and the strap's legacy continued until 2013 after it was reintroduced as the WWE World Heavyweight Title.
