AEW Interim Title Eliminator Match Added To NJPW Dominion

The winner advances to Forbidden Door

Two men will vie for the interim AEW World title at Forbidden Door on June 26, and one qualifying match has been announced for next weekend's NJPW Dominion card.

AEW announced in a press release Saturday that Hiroshi Tanahashi will wrestle Hirooki Goto at Dominion on Sunday, June 12. The winner will advance to Forbidden Door to compete for the interim World title.

The other participant will be determined on this coming Wednesday's Dynamite. Number one contender Jon Moxley will face the winner of a show-opening battle royal, with that winner qualifying for the interim title bout.

The main event of Forbidden Door will be either Moxley or the battle royal winner facing either Tanahashi or Goto. The winner will become the interim AEW World champion in the absence of actual World champion CM Punk.

Punk announced on last night's AEW Rampage that he sustained a broken foot that will require surgery. However, it is not a long term injury, and as such, Tony Khan is allowing him to remain World champion.

When Punk returns from injury, he will face the interim champion to determine the undisputed AEW World champion.
