Details Of Heated Conversation Between AEW's Tony Khan & Konnan Revealed

AAA's Konnan has provided an update on relations between the Lucha Libre promotion and All Elite Wrestling, during which he detailed a heated conversation between himself and Tony Khan. 

Konnan claimed on his Keepin' It 100 podcast that a rift between himself and Tony Khan emerged in late 2022 after Khan pulled Sammy Guevara and Tay Melo from a show. Khan pulled the couple from the AAA event after an AEW talent contracted COVID and the AEW President wanted Melo to be their replacement. 

Issues arose, though, after Konnan referred to the AEW talent as "some chick." 

"Tony got really, really mad about this and I can't even believe he got mad...I was thinking to myself, you've got so many girls but you're going to use her. Okay. And then I said on the podcast, I go 'some chick got (COVID)' because I'm pretty sure he didn't want me to say the name. And when he saw me, he goes, 'What do you mean some chick?' Like, oh give me a break, dude. So, would you rather have had me say the name? It's not being disrespectful. If you say 'chick' I think they know what you mean. 'Hey, that's a hot chick,' is that disrespectful?" Konnan said.

The AAA booker then stated the promotion doesn't need AEW, adding: 

"We've been selling out everywhere. We don't even need AEW, and they're expensive and it's hard to deal with them because they pull 'em out at the last minute. I see they haven't had that problem with Arena Mexico. Whether he's trying to stick it up... because I don't put over his thing or he's just having a good business relationship and it's easier to work with them, I have no idea...I'm going to be very vague with what I'm about to tell you and remember I said it today and very soon you'll find out what I'm talking about, what comes around goes around. And when it happens, you're going to go, 'Okay, now I see what you're talking about.' So, have your little fun while you can."

AEW and AAA have worked together since All Elite Wrestling was formed in 2019. Relations became strained in late 2022, though, particularly after a show in December of that year where Dragon Lee and Dralistico defeated FTR for the AAA Tag Team Championships and then Dragon Lee announced he would be leaving the company to join WWE. Tony Khan reportedly felt "double-crossed" by the situation of using AEW talents to put over a soon-to-be WWE wrestler. 

AEW and AAA still work together, with the likes of Satnam Singh and QT Marshall regularly working AAA shows. All Elite Wrestling have worked far more with CMLL over the past several months, though, to the point that CMLL was featured at Forbidden Door and Chris Jericho will soon face Mistico in Arena Mexico. 

AAA have also recently begun talks with WWE NXT over a potential partnership.
