WWE Files Trademark For 'Dr. Shelby'

Team Hell No, Sasha Banks and Bayley will be delighted!

The esteemed Dr Shelby made his big return to WWE Raw this week, carrying out the counselling attended by both Sasha Banks and Bayley at the request of General Manager, Kurt Angle. This one-off outing may not be the last time we see the good doctor on WWE's television, as the company certainly appears to be keeping their options open by filing for the trademark on his name.

On June 29, WWE applied for the trademark with the description reading: “Entertainment services in the nature of professional wrestling; providing information on the internet in the nature of professional wrestling."

Shelby is played by actor Michael Aspinwall. Looking on sites like IMDB you'll see that he does have a few credits to his name, but his work as Dr Shelby is by far his most notable to date. Earlier this year, he appeared on a pilot for a show called Stupid Cupid, where three pals create a dating app and use previous bad dates to try and understand how love works - that's professional wrestling in a nutshell. There's no wonder he fits on so well.

Despite making only three appearances during his first run with the company, WWE fans the world over fell in love with Dr Shelby during his interactions with Team Hell No's Daniel Bryan and Kane back in 2012. The segments are unequivocally some of the finest comedy WWE has produced this decade, so it's little wonder they're trying to inject some of that magic into another feud.

Shelby didn't really get anywhere with The Boss and The Hugger on Raw this week, so it'll be interesting to see if Kurt Angle has the pair go through another round of counselling or not next.
