All Elite Wrestling have abandoned their bid to trademark 'AEW: Shockwave.'
Wrestlenomics has reported that AEW filed to give up the trademark with the United States Patent and Trademark Office on November 13, 2025. A judgment by the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board was submitted on November 17 "with prejudice", which means AEW can't try to trademark the term again in the future.
AEW originally filed to trademark 'AEW: Shockwave' on September 6, 2024 amidst plans for a possible new series. As of May 2025, however, there were believed to be no plans for Shockwave and AEW have continued with Dynamite and Collision as their weekly programming.
There were issues between AEW and the National Wrestling Alliance over the Shockwave trademark. NWA sent a legal letter to AEW on September 26, 2024 asking Tony Khan's promotion to abandon their trademark bid. Billy Corgan's company then offically filed an opposition to AEW's Shockwave trademark in June 2025, claiming they had common law rights dating back to 2020. NWA had previously aired one season of Shockwave from December 2020.
AEW's abandonment of the 'AEW: Shockwave' trademark happened just days after Tony Khan "had a really nice talk" with Billy Corgan.
Beyond the Shockwave dispute, issues arose between AEW and the NWA in November over the creation of the AEW National Championship. The AEW belt was criticised by NWA talents due to the NWA already having their own version of the National Title, but reports have noted that NWA wrestlers have been asked to lay off criticising the AEW National Championship.
