The recent introduction of the WWE Independent Development (WWE ID) scheme has divided opinion across the wrestling landscape, and the topic is sure to resurface with the announcement of a match between a WWE ID talent and a notable star of AEW.

Beyond Wrestling have officially announced a match between Bryce Donovan and AEW's Kris Statlander, set to take place at 'Heavy Lies the Crown' in Worcester, Massachusetts on New Year's Eve.

It's worth noting that Donovan will be accompanied by 'Smart' Mark Sterling, who is also signed to AEW.

WWE's official website defines the ID scheme as such:

"WWE ID will identify the top independent wrestling prospects with an official 'WWE ID Prospect' designation and support their developmental journey. WWE ID will give fans the opportunity to follow the paths of these standout prospects on the independent wrestling scene through curated, behind-the-scenes content, as well as highlights and matches showcased across WWE's social platforms."

Several training schools are involved with the project, including the Cody Rhodes-led Nightmare Factory, Seth Rollins' Black x Brave, and Reality of Wrestling, owned by Booker T and Sharmell.
