John Cena’s shocking heel turn at WWE’s Elimination Chamber 2025 premium live event prompted the emergence of several reports and stories regarding the details behind the decision, for instance a story broke that reported the idea that The Rock legitimately wanted Cody Rhodes to turn heel.
Those behind the scenes in WWE turned this idea down, as did Undisputed WWE Champion Cody Rhodes personally, leading to a change in direction that saw Cena turn heel and align with The Rock instead. It was also reported that the heel turn for Cena was originally planned for the WrestleMania 41 main event, but instead plans changed to pull the trigger early at Elimination Chamber.
The Rock’s longtime writing partner and former Head Writer of Monday Night RAW Brian Gewirtz has sought to shut down these reports, taking to X. In response to a post detailing the aforementioned stories, Gewirtz replied “0-2”, implying that neither story was true. Gewirtz has been known to deny reports regarding The Rock, last year shunning the idea that one of The Rock’s segments went long on Friday Night SmackDown.
