Chris Jericho Wanted CM Punk Match In AEW

Chris Jericho wanted to work with CM Punk before his firing

CM Punk recently returned to WWE in a shocking Survivor Series moment, putting a decisive end to any rumours or speculation that he could be AEW’s “devil” or set for a return to the company at any point in the near future.

His exit from AEW left many loose ends, such as the culmination of his storyline with MJF, for instance. There were also many matches that Punk never had when in AEW, such as against old enemies in Bryan Danielson and Jeff Hardy for instance. One name that he was supposedly in talks to work with was another former rival - Chris Jericho. The pair seemingly had some heat following the Brawl Out incident, but they did end up on the same page, with rumours floating around that Jericho could’ve been one of Punk’s first rivals after his return to AEW TV.

When replying to a fan on X, it looks as if Chris Jericho really wanted this match with Punk. The original tweet was saying how sad they were that AEW didn’t book the one match they wanted to see - CM Punk vs. Chris Jericho. Jericho replied saying he wanted it too. In the end though, Punk ended up feuding with the likes of Samoa Joe and Ricky Starks.
