CM Punk Claims Hangman Page Promo Was About "Selling Tickets”

CM Punk went off script to call out Hangman Page on August 17

Ahead of the historic AEW World Championship Unification match between CM Punk and Jon Moxley on the August 24 edition of AEW Dynamite, all focus was instead on former champion Hangman Page, after CM Punk called him out on the August 17 Dynamite.

Punk’s comments on Page were not part of the plan, and many believed Punk went into business for himself, with Punk and Page allegedly having heat backstage in AEW. Punk has sought to dispel any rumours of real life animosity between himself and Hangman, telling Sports Illustrated’s Justin Barrasso that the promo was nothing more than a promo:

“That’s what I’m here to do, make people want to see what happens next,” said Punk. “I’m trying to sell tickets to the live events. That goes back to me saying Twitter isn’t [the] real world. Twitter is a bunch of people that don’t really care about your opinion. They want to find like-minded opinions that share their worldview. I’m trying to tell stories, sell tickets, and get people to tune in on Dynamite.”

Punk later added:

“I don’t write stuff [down ahead of time], I just talk. That’s one of the biggest things that’s missing from pro wrestling. It’s letting people go out there and talk if they know what they’re doing. It can be magic.”
