A huge, first-time ever match is set to take place later tonight on December 29, as WWE have announced a major clash for their Holiday Tour live event in Chicago, Illinois at the Allstate Arena.

In posts on social media, it has been made official that the planned Steel Cage match (which has taken place multiple times on WWE’s 2025 Holiday Tour) between World Heavyweight Champion Gunther and current rival Damian Priest will not longer be taking place, and instead it will be Gunther defending his gold inside the Steel Cage against CM Punk, native of Chicago.

This marks the first time CM Punk has challenged for a world title since his WWE comeback, and his first Steel Cage match also. The news of this match did leak earlier in the week, but it wasn’t until yesterday that WWE made the match official. It will be a first time ever clash between Gunther and CM Punk - a match that was previously rumoured to be taking place at Survivor Series 2024, though this did not end up happening. Punk previously battled with Ludwig Kaiser on WWE’s Holiday Tour. It was reported recently that WWE want CM Punk in a world title match at WrestleMania, so this could well be a precursor to that.
