Although he has been back on AEW TV since May's Double or Nothing pay-per-view and has had six matches since then, MJF has claimed to Cultaholic Wrestling's Jack King that he isn't 100 per cent and he returned sooner than he probably should have.

"I've come back from injury and I will tell you candidly, so here's a little clickbait for you. I'm still not 100 per cent. I had to come back because I don't know if you noticed this but the show without me blew a bag of d*cks. So I came back a little bit earlier than I probably physically should have. The funny thing is I was still able to beat RUSH, Templario, soon it'll be Michael Oku, Kyle Fletcher, and Will Ospreay, and I'm gonna do it again on August 25th. And that's me at 80 per cent," MJF said in an interview filmed before his match with Michael Oku which he went on to win.

MJF was away from AEW TV for several months following December 2023's Worlds End pay-per-view due to suffering from multiple injuries. Since his return at Double or Nothing, MJF has captured the AEW International Championship from Will Ospreay and rechristened the belt the AEW American Title. MJF and Will Ospreay will face off in a rematch at AEW All In on Sunday, August 25 inside Wembley Stadium.

MJF has also been involved in some backstage drama with Britt Baker since his AEW return, which he has since addressed with Cultaholic.
