After a tumultuous series of backstage fights and disagreements in AEW, it was reported that Chris Jericho, Bryan Danielson, and Jon Moxley stood up as locker-room leaders, helping steady the ship in the wake of the ‘Brawl Out’ saga.
Jericho would subsequently go on to sign a new deal with the company, with reports suggesting ‘The Ocho’ would be increasing his backstage responsibilities as well as continuing to serve as an on-screen talent. As for what Jericho’s backstage responsibilities may entail, AEW’s Tony Schiavone lifted the lid during an episode of the Ask Tony Anything podcast:
"He's just kind of a leader of the locker room," Schiavone said. "When we have locker room meetings, he kind of runs things. There's a number of athletes that he's kind of in charge of their creative. And other than that, he's just a guy that has a lot of clout, and because he has a lot of clout, when he says something the wrestlers take it to heart."
Schiavone went on to label Jericho the ‘team captain’ of AEW in want of an official title.
