Gable Steveson Considering Return To Amateur Wrestling

Could Gable Steveson go back to the amateur ranks before joining WWE full-time?

Two-time NCAA Division 1 National Champion and highly-touted WWE prospect Gable Steveson is reportedly considering a return to the amateur ranks.

Minnesota Gophers wrestling coach Brandon Eggum told Minnesota news outlet Pioneer Press that Steveson is interested in returning to the wrestling team, saying:

"It would have to be something he works out with the WWE and Vince McMahon. Those details…it hasn't gotten that far. It's one thing if he said, 'No way, I'm not doing it'. But he has the eligibility, he's capable and he has interest in doing it.

"I know he would like to wrestle, and he loves competing. Really, it comes down to making that work".

Steveson is under an N.I.L (name, image, likeness) deal with WWE and has one year of NCAA eligibility left (though he has graduated from university). Eggum noted that the team would welcome him back with open arms.

The 21-year-old signed a WWE deal last year and was subsequently drafted to the Raw brand.

He appeared on both nights of WrestleMania 38. On night one he was introduced to the crowd by Stephanie McMahon, while night two saw him get into a physical confrontation with fellow amateur standout Chad Gable.
