Former two-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion Gunther was not present on last night's edition of Raw, which came two days after he dropped the title to CM Punk at SummerSlam.
Michael Cole explained Der Ring General's absence on the show, noting that Gunther had suffered a septal hematoma and an orbital blowout fracture during the match with Punk. Consequently, he will be out of action for an indefinite period of time.
Prior to SummerSlam, it was reported that the 37-year-old would be taking some time off in order to get nose surgery.
Towards the end of their SummerSlam match, Punk tripped Gunther on the announce table, resulting in Gunther bleeding. According to Dave Meltzer, this spot was planned to cover for his impending absence.
While it is unknown exactly how long Gunther will be out of action for, he will be back before the end of the year if reports that he is set to be John Cena's final opponent are accurate.
Gunther signed a new deal with WWE in late 2024, with one of the perks being that he would receive his own private bus for travelling.
