Jay Briscoe Apologises Again For Past Homophobic Tweets
An apology from Jay Briscoe
Mar 16, 2022
After Ring Of Honor went into self-imposed hiatus at the end of 2021 and released talent from their contracts, many speculated The Briscoes would join All Elite Wrestling's tag team division.
It has been months since then, though, and The Briscoes haven't appeared in AEW, with a report having noted 'a person of influence' within WarnerMedia - AEW's TV partner - didn't want the 12-time ROH World Tag Team Champions in Tony Khan's promotion because of Jay Briscoe's past homophobic tweets from 2013.
Briscoe has previously apologised for the tweets but Jay has apologised again while discussing the report during an appearance on the Battleground Podcast.
"I want to say, thank you to the people who really know...we get labelled as homophobes. I put out a stupid tweet nine years ago, the most dumbest, immature, obnoxious sh*t I've ever done. I don't want anybody, from any walk of life, to feel like they can't care for The Briscoes because I promise we love everybody. We love everybody and we just want to go out there and be pro wrestlers and give the best match that we can," Jay said.
"I said some dumb sh*t a long time ago, I apologised for it and I'll apologise for it again. It was stupid. I feel like now there are people who look at us like, 'We can't cheer for them because they hate a certain group of people.' We don't hate nobody. We love everybody. We're just some country boys. I thought I was taking a stand for the Lord back in the day," he continued.
Mark added: "You realised, from that immaturity, that's not what you were doing because anything, God and the Lord, he has love above anything. That card trumps anything else. What you thought you were doing, taking a stand for the Lord, was counterproductive to the kingdom of God, not only to being a human being and relating with other humans that we live with and love."
Jay finished: "I feel like people label us a certain way. Trust me, we're not like that."
While they may not be on AEW Dynamite anytime soon, The Briscoes will wrestle in a promotion now owned by AEW President Tony Khan and they are scheduled to defend the ROH World Tag Team Title at Supercard Of Honor on Friday, April 1.
