Jonathan Gresham: Why I Re-Signed With ROH

Gresham is considered one of the best wrestlers in the World

Jonathan Gresham is currently one of the best wrestlers in the world. The reigning ROH Pure Champion has been quietly putting out stellar match after stellar match in an era when ROH’s profile isn’t at its highest, but has committed himself to the company long-term.

In an interview with Fightful’s Sean Ross Sapp, Gresham has given his thoughts on ROH, and reiterated why he decided to re-sign with the company:

“Ring of Honor has given me so much, the company itself,” said Gresham” I would have been in a really bad place in my life if I didn’t become obsessed with Ring of Honor. So, I have no loyalties to any particular person in the company, but I want to see Ring of Honor in a certain place. I can’t see myself leaving. I think Ring of Honor can be bigger than it's ever been. I really want to be a part of that and the only way for me to do that is to stay.”

Gresham has re-signed with ROH on two occasions, putting pen to paper on new deals in 2019 and 2021, having made his debut for the company back in 2011 before signing full-time in 2017.

"To be honest, I was kind of nervous because I can’t visualise myself anywhere else,” Gresham continued “I’ve been fixated on being in Ring of Honor. I remember thinking, ‘Oh, man. If I could just get to Ring of Honor,’ and then I got to Ring of Honor and I was like, ‘Okay, I’m here. I’m tagging with [Alex] Shelley, I’m tagging with [Chris] Sabin. This is awesome.’ I was like, ‘I am content.’ Then after a while, it was like, ‘Alright, I wonder what else I can do.’ He was just like, ‘Don’t worry. Keep grinding.’ Put my nose back down. Kept grinding. Next thing you know, I was wrestling [Jay] Lethal. I was like, ‘Wow.’ That’s when I looked up, looked around at the cameras, looked back down. Boom, now I’m tagging with Lethal. Every time I look up something new was happening and now I look up and it’s like, ‘Wow. I never thought any of this.’ So, I just want to keep putting my nose back down and grinding until I look up one day and Ring of Honor is on national television and I am a part of the rise of that. I want to look back down and hopefully, when I look back up I’m watching new guys do the same thing on television, I’m agenting their matches for Ring of Honor. That’s the goal.”
