Lex Luger Reflects On Historic US Title Run

Luger is still the longest-reigning champion in the title's history

Former WCW star Lex Luger still holds the record for having the longest United States Title reign in history, despite having initially captured the belt over thirty years ago.

The Total Package beat Michael Hayes at a non-televised live event on May 22, 1989 to begin his third, record-setting reign. He would go on to hold the title for 523 days, before dropping it to Stan Hansen at Halloween Havoc 1990.

Luger is particularly proud of this accomplishment, as he recently said during a Sign It Live interview with Highspots.

"It's one of my first really big titles I won and have the longest reign accumulatively and then the longest-running reign at 500 something days, pretty special. I've got this one at home, perfect".

Despite his long and illustrious career in WCW, WWE and elsewhere, Luger is not currently a member of the WWE Hall of Fame. Last year, Mick Foley petitioned to have Luger inducted.

Lex's list and career were recently profiled in an A&E biography special.
