Mariah May is no more. On last night's edition of WWE NXT, it was revealed that going forward, May will be known as Blake Monroe.
In a vignette stylised to look like an old Hollywood newsreel and inspired by Sabrina Carpenter, Monroe was shown getting out of a bathtub and getting ready to go out, with mocked-up newspapers emphasising her 'The Glamour' nickname. At the end of the video, a graphic displayed the name Blake Monroe. The 26-year-old has since changed her X/Twitter handle to @BlakeMonroeWWE.
It was expected that the former AEW Women's World Champion would receive a new name following her debut on last week's episode of NXT.
Cory Hays of BodySlam.net has reported that the first name Blake is a tribute to the former Mariah May's niece Blake, who has appeared on her vlog multiple times in the past. Monroe is inspired by iconic Hollywood star Marilyn Monroe.
Monroe signed a multi-year WWE deal after leaving AEW following the expiry of her contract. After her televised WWE debut, it was announced that she had signed with Paradigm Talent Agency, joining the likes of CM Punk, Drew McIntyre and Liv Morgan in their growing roster of WWE stars.
