Matt Cardona: I'm Here To Save The NWA

The former ‘broski’ is a hot commodity right now

Matt Cardona is the hottest commodity in independent wrestling right now, and after defying the odds at GCW, and IMPACT, the current NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion says he’s in the NWA to save the historic organisation.

Currently holding five titles from across the indies, Cardona told Sports Illustrated that he’s in the NWA to be the top guy, no matter what he personally feels about the company:

“This is my opportunity to be the top guy,” said Cardona. “But just because I’m in this position doesn’t mean I’m going to sugarcoat how I feel. When I was a kid growing up, I thought the NWA was old, dated and boring. I was a WWF fan. Now it’s 30 years later and I still think the NWA is old and dated and boring. I’m here to save the place, even if I’m getting booed for it.”

Cardona defeated Trevor Murdoch for the ‘ten pounds of gold’ earlier in February, and is set to defend the title against former two-time champion Nick Aldis at the Crockett Cup event in March.
