When WWE announced a round of talent releases in 2023, many fans were shocked at the exit of Mustafa Ali, with Ali regarded highly by fans for his ability and work in the ring.

Ali recently made his return to the independent scene, working an APC show in France before defeating Gringo Loco at GCW No Compadre on January 12. A report from Fightful Select suggests that Ali’s effect on the Indies has already been felt, with several promoters stating that the former Retribution leader is helping boost ticket sales.

The post-WWE indy bounce is nothing new, but the report states that Ali’s boost so far is the most some indy promoters have seen from a departed WWE talent ‘for years’.

As well as his work on the Indies, Ali is set to make his New Japan Pro Wrestling debut at Windy City Riot on April 12, with Ali set to challenge IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi at the event.

Ali has claimed that 2024 will see him undertake a ‘world tour’, with bookings in DEFY, RevPro, and PROGRESS already confirmed.
