New Champion Crowned On WWE NXT
WWE NXT saw a new champion crowned
Oct 9, 2024
There was a changing of the guard on the October 8 edition of WWE NXT, with a huge singles title win for a member of the men’s roster.
Former NXT Tag Team Champion Tony D’Angelo once again took on the imposing Oba Femi for the NXT North American Championship, defying the odds to get the upset win and hand Oba Femi his first loss on NXT TV.
The two had previously clashed for the title at No Mercy on September 1, and on October 8 it looked like we were set for a repeat when Femi looked to have victory secured when he went for a powerbomb, but Tony D managed to roll up Femi for the shock 1-2-3, before celebrating in ring with his Family.
With the win, Tony D’Angelo starts his first reign as NXT North American Champion, becoming the 19th man to hold the belt since it was established in 2018. With the loss, Oba Femi’s reign ends after 273 days - a record setting reign for the championship, and it remains to be seen if Femi comes back for revenge, sets his sights on the NXT Men’s Championship, or even heads to WWE’s main roster.
