Original Plans For AAA Mega Title Match At TripleMania Regia Revealed
Mega Champion Kenny Omega recently vacated the title
Dec 3, 2021
This weekend’s upcoming AAA Triplemania Regia has undertaken a few twists and turns already, with AAA Mega Champion Kenny Omega vacating the title due to injury, and his scheduled match against Hijo Del Vikingo changed to a five-way pitting Vikingo against Bandido, Bobby Fish, Samuray Del Sol (fka Kalisto) and Jay Lethal.
However, a report from Sports Illustrated has revealed that this five-way was not the original plan, with AAA having originally proposed doing a four-way composed of Omega’s past opponents Laredo Kid, Dragon Lee, and Fénix against Vikingo.
This plan did not come to fruition, however, as Fenix was already scheduled to team with brother Penta against FTR for the AAA Tag Titles, whilst Dragon Lee and Laredo Kid were also booked elsewhere on the card.
Time was pressed to sort the title match, with AAA only have two weeks to find a replacement for Omega, so after the original four-way match was scrapped, AAA’s Konnan worked with Tony Khan to bring in Bobby Fish and the newly signed Jay Lethal, whilst GCW apparently had a big hand in getting ROH World Champion Bandido for Triplemania Regia.
